The First Forty Days Diary (Day 1)

Day 1
It’s been 24 hours since I gave birth to my baby girl. What a wonderful relief it has been to have finally gone through the much anticipated birthing process and have her in my arms. My growing body needed a break and though my body is far from healed, I am feeling extremely grateful.
The first 24 hours were amazing. Doing skin to skin practically all the time, baby girl latching on so well (for the most part), and the rest of my children taking turns holding and enjoying their new baby sister.
I loved that she joined us earth side so early in the day. I was able to check up on my health and baby’s health to make sure there were no red flags for either of us.
The First Night
The first night she slept on my chest almost the entire night. We did have one fussy stretch while she struggled to latch on one side, but once we worked through it she settled beautifully and slept for about three peaceful hours before we woke around 7 a.m.
The two toddlers whom we also co sleep with woke up a couple times when they heard their baby sister cry but thankfully it all went smoothly and they settled back down shortly after.
Today’s Nourishment
The first meal
Because baby girl was born at 11am and I had skipped breakfast that morning, my husband made me the most delicious sausage and veggie omelette with toast and strawberries with Nutella.
Wow. There is something so satisfying about that very first postpartum meal. After labor, a warm, nourishing plate of food feels like the greatest gift.
Lunchtime
For lunch I had some teriyaki chicken and rice with avocado.
Delicious Dinner
And dinner was my favorite postpartum meal, beef soup. Well, caldo de res. Towards the end of my pregnancy I had stocked up on grass feed beef bones, meat, oxtails, and bone marrow from a local farmer. My mother in law made a nourishing and most delicious pot of bone broth with veggies.

Postpartum Diary Intentions
As we begin this little postpartum diary, I intend to check in as often possible for the next 40 days. Daily would be amazing, but no need for big commitments during this tender time.
I plan to share little snippets of my experience of these first 40 days. I rather keep things slow and easy with creating little written blog posts over videos (not that I won’t create those here and there).
I also plan to share tips along the way for women who are pregnant (or planning to be) and planning for their postpartum period. Or maybe you’re already in the postpartum period.
I’ve read extensively and learned through my own postpartum experiences regarding the importance of the postpartum period on mothers.
As I write this, my sweet girl is asleep on my chest, and I already know these days are going to pass far too quickly. I’m looking forward to slowing down, soaking in every moment, and inviting you along with me.
I hope you will follow along and feel free to join my email list so I can remind you when a new post is up 💕
